Suspect in quintuple homicide takes own life
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – State police in West Virginia have confirmed that a Morgantown man who authorities believe shot and killed five people in a residence Monday afternoon took his own life early today in Kentucky.
Capt. J. H. Merrill confirmed that Shayne Franklin Riggleman, 22, of University Dr. shot and killed himself as sheriff’s deputies in Kentucky approached his vehicle following a brief police chase.
Riggleman’s death capped a spree of violence that claimed the lives of a family of four in Morgantown as well as another Morgantown man living at their home. The spree also left a West Virginia gas station attendant suffering a gunshot wound to his neck and a Fayette County woman in a local hospital with serious injuries after Riggleman ran her down with a stolen vehicle in the Fairchance area.
Among those investigators said they believed were killed by Riggleman include: Charles A. Richardson III, 49; Karen Richardson, 50; Robert Raber Jr., 30; Krista Hudson, 22, and Kevin Hudson, 17. All five are from Morgantown and were found shot and killed inside the Richardson home at 100 Sugar Grove Road.
