Ray Cline Sprowls, Sr.

Ray Cline Sprowls, Sr., age 84, passed away peacefully and with dignity after a long and courageous battle with cancer in the Uniontown Hospital on Sunday, September 4, 2011.

Ray was born November 18, 1926 in Brownsville, PA. He was the son of the late Alvah G. and Margaret E. (Meese) Sprowls.

Ray graduated from Brownsville High School with the Class of 1944 and was a member of the Reunion Committee. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and completed a diploma program with the RCA Electronics School of New York. During his youth, he was a prominent violinist in the Brownsville area. He had a great love for music but especially Classical, Jazz and Big Dance Band.

Ray was a member of the Fort Burd United Presbyterian Church, Brownsville, PA and a former member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Uniontown, PA.

Ray was a retired member of the I.B.E.W. Local Union 5, Pittsburgh, PA, having received his 60 year pin this year.

For many years, he was a former resident of Uniontown, PA and in Falling Waters, WV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Helen Meese Van Riper, and his loving cousins: Margaret Ann Small of Connellsville and Sara Van Riper Armstrong of Brownsville.

Surving is his beloved wife, Bonnie Lee (Jennings) Sprowls, whom he married on January 20, 1950; sons, Ray C., Jr. and wife, Sharon of Farmington, PA and Samuel Jacob and wife, Jacqueline of Uniontown, PA; four grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Brian Keith Sprowls of Canonsburg, G. Christopher Mikolowsky, Allison Rae and Samuel Adam Sprowls all of Uniontown, PA. His loving cousins, Eleanor Seiling of Ligonier, Mary Elizabeth Cagnon of Rusk, TX and Shirley Ann Meese of Brownsville. Also left behind, Lorraine Rhodes, who was a special friend and support to both Ray, Sr. and his wife.

At Ray’s request, there will be no public visitation.

A private Memorial Service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fort Burd United Presbyterian Church Building Fund, the Trinity United Presbyterian Church Building Fund or to a charity of one’s choosing.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation for the compassionate care that was provided by the First Floor Staff of the Uniontown Hospital West Wing, Dr. Pish and Greg Lasek.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, PA.
