Mayor casts deciding vote for police hiring

CALIFORNIA — Mayor Casey Durdines cast the deciding vote this week to hire one of the borough’s part-time police officers as a full-time officer.

Following a brief executive session for police personnel matters, Durdines suggested that Justin Schultz be hired full time. Council members Sheila Chambers, Shelly Roberts and Patsy Alfano voted in favor of the motion, while council members Anthony Mariscotti, Jon Bittner and Edwin “Chip” Glab voted against it. Councilwoman Donna Bridges was absent from the meeting, leaving the deciding vote to the mayor, who voted in favor of hiring Schultz.
