Teen sentenced in gang attack
A Uniontown teen was sentenced to six to 23 months in prison in Fayette County Court Tuesday in a case involving a 2009 gang attack.
Ramal O. Chisler, 17, was one of several charged in an attack on Kevin Rich of Uniontown on May 10, 2009. Uniontown police charged that Chisler was among the men who attacked Rich at his home on Murray Avenue.
The men, police have contended, are members of a gang called “Killa Squad.”
During a trial for one of the men, Rich testified he was having difficulties with the men because he was pursuing a music career.
Chisler, who is also charged with criminal homicide, pleaded guilty in the case in June.
Several others were also charged in the alleged gang attack. Demond Wiggan was convicted of riot and simple assault following a jury trial earlier this year. The 17-year-old was sentenced to five to 11 ½ months in prison.
The cases against Tre McCargo and Roy Johnson, both 18 and of Uniontown have not yet been resolved. McCargo’s attorney has filed a motion to have his case heard in juvenile court because McCargo was under 18 when the alleged crimes occurred.
Johnson had a request for juvenile transfer denied, and has suppression motions pending in court.
Chisler withdrew a requst to have his case transferred.
