Vanderbilt man sentenced in bar attack

1 min read

A Vanderbilt man who broke bones in another man’s face during a 2009 bar attack will spend up to 23 ½ months in prison.

On Tuesday, Christopher Alan Coughenour, 27, was sentenced to six to 23 ½ months in prison by Fayette County Judge Steve P. Leskinen.

Coughenour pleaded guilty to simple assault and harassment in June. In exchange, prosecutors dropped a charge of aggravated assault.

State police charged that on Nov. 1, 2009, Coughenour hit Keith Bryner of Vanderbilt at the Checkered Flag Bar. When police arrived, they found Bryner bleeding profusely from the face, and he told authorities that an unidentified man jumped him, police said.

Police said bar surveillance footage showed that Coughenour ran at Bryner and hit him in the head.
