A Point Marion man is facing criminal homicide charges for beating his girlfriend’s 4-year-old to death at their home over a period of several days.

Patrick Ray Haney, 27, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr. with criminal homicide early today. His girlfriend, Heather L. Forsythe, 27, is the mother of the dead child, identified as Trenton Lewis St. Clair. The three resided at 1129 Morgantown Road, state police said.

Forsythe was charged before George with endangering the welfare of a child.

Police got involved in the case Tuesday evening when St. Clair was pronounced dead at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. around 7 p.m.

Trooper James A. Pierce, who filed the charges, alleged that during an interview, Forsythe told him that Haney had been been abusing St. Clair for “several days.” Pierce alleged that Haney admitted to “disciplining” St. Clair by hitting the child in the face and smacking him on the back of the head.

Both are in Fayette County Prison. Because Haney was charged with homicide, he is ineligible for bond. George remanded Forsythe to prison on $250,000 straight cash bond.
