Temple Israel welcomes newest student rabbi

1 min read

Temple Israel is welcoming its newest student rabbi.

The congregation will greet Amy E. Goodman, a 32-year-old native of Woodbury, Conn., with a dinner Friday at Generations restaurant in Uniontown. She will officiate at her first service at 10 a.m. Saturday for the congregation, which meets at the Uniontown Jewish Community Center.

Goodman is a rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College in New York City, which has been sending student rabbis to Temple Israel since 2003 following the retirement of Rabbi Sion David after 27 years of service to the congregation.

This is Goodman’s first visit to Uniontown and she is looking forward to working with the local leadership. David said she will return for services for Rosh Hashana at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Goodman will also celebrate services for Yom Kippur at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7 and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 and throughout the day. She will return to the area about once a month.

More information is available in Friday’s HeraldStandard.com.
