Association to host homemade brew competition
CONNELLSVILLE — The Student Conservation Association (SCA) Trail Town Outreach Corps is urging local beer makers to take part in Connellsville’s first homemade brew competition.
The “Tangled Up In Brew” contest will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Elks Lodge 503 in Connellsville.
Emma Strong, Trail Town Outreach Corps member and event coordinator, said that six homemade brew makers have registered to take part in the event.
“It is drawing a great response,” said Strong.
Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including best beer, most unique, best name and best pairing, with a panel of judges and attendees taking part in the voting, said Strong.
The event will follow the Fall Foliage Ride along the Great Allegheny Passage.
“We’re hoping that those that take part in the ride will join us,” said Strong, adding that proceeds from the contest will benefit the various trail groups along the Great Allegheny Passage.
Cost to attend is $7 per person or $12 per couple for tickets purchased in advance and $8 per person or $14 per couple at the door.
Tickets can be purchased at the Trail Town office, located at 100 S. Arch St., Connellsville; at the Oct. 1 Connellsville Mum Festival and at the Oct. 16 Fall Foliage Ride.
Tickets include a pint glass and snacks.
