Merrittstown man sentenced in ambulance theft

1 min read

A Merrittstown man who stole an ambulance from Highlands Hospital earlier this year was sentenced to six to 23 months in prison for theft in Fayette County Court on Friday.

Michael David Wilson Sr., 43, pleaded guilty to theft, reckless endangerment, receiving stolen property, drunken driving and criminal mischief earlier this year. Wilson stole an ambulance from Highlands Hospital in Connellsville on March 13.

Police said he was seeking treatment there when he walked outside shortly after 9 p.m. and took the vehicle, owned by Fayette EMS. The ambulance has an automated vehicle locator, and police were able to track the vehicle to Route 201 about 30 minutes after it was taken. Wilson led police on a short chase, but they were able to stop him in Franklin Township.

President Judge Gerald R. Solomon also sentenced Wilson to 72 hours to six months in prison for the DUI charge.

Wilson has additional charges pending in court for setting a dozen fires – most in Luzerne Township.

In that case, Wilson faces numerous arson charges.
