Heart Walk to be held Saturday
Hundreds of walkers will take steps towards a healthier community at the Fayette Heart Walk on Saturday.
The annual walk will return to Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. Registration will start at 9 a.m. and the ceremonial start and walk will follow at 9:45 a.m.
The American Heart Association said its Heart Walk strives to get Americans physically active in an environment that is fun for the whole family while focusing attention on raising money to fight heart disease and stroke — the nation’s No. 1 and 3 killers.
Only 15 percent of American adults achieve the American Heart Association’s recommended levels of moderate aerobic physical activity, 150 minutes a week. Walking vigorously for as little as 30 minutes a day, preferably most days of the week, can promote weight loss, decrease the risk of coronary heart disease, and lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Wendy O’Brien will be the walk chairwoman and Kimberly and Christian Kovach will serve as the spokesmen. Teams and individual walkers are welcome to register online or at the walk. For more information, call Cindy Stirling at 724-437-2798 or visit online at www.heart.org/fayettewalk.
