CONNELLSVILLE — An opportunity to visit some of Connellsville’s historic landmarks while offering aid for the development of a festival park is the focus of Saturday’s “Trek Our Town” walk.

Ethan Keedy, Fayette County Cultural Trust board member and Connellsville Area Senior High School class president, will lead the tour that will begin at the new Amtrak train station along Water Street to the city post office, Carnegie Free Library, East Park and Connellsville Community Center before returning to downtown, where the festival park will be located.

The trust recently purchased the vacant lot located next to ArtWorks Connellsville, another trust endeavor. The purchase was made possible through a Laurel Highlands Visitor’s Bureau, Fayette County Hotel Grant and funding raised by the trust.

“We want to make a vacant space into a vibrant space,” said Keedy of the project.

When built, the plaza will have a stage and a large decorative bench for seating while allowing space for a variety of activities.

Last year, Keedy spearheaded a similar event that raised $1,100 for improvements at East Park. The funding is aiding in improvements of the park’s concession stand.

The “Trek Our Town” is being held in conjunction with the Autumn Mum Festival.

Participants can register in advance or at the festival. Forms are available at ArtWorks Connellsville and at the Connellsville Redevelopment Authority office. A booth will be set up at Lions Square for registration on Saturday.

Cost is $10 for students and $20 for adults. Each participant will receive a T-shirt.

“Come and join us as we visit our past and prepare for our future,” said Keedy.
