Man to stand trial in indecent assault

By Josh Krysak heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

A Uniontown man accused of inappropriately touching a 7-year-old South Union Township girl will stand trial.

State police Trooper Heather L. Clem said Harold Wayne Riggen, 53, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr. with a single count of indecent assault for the alleged incident that occurred sometime between April and October 2010.

Following a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning, George held the charge against Riggen to Fayette County Court.

Clem said the charge was filed after the child told a caretaker and officials at her elementary school earlier this year that Riggen inappropriately touched her at a residence in South Union in 2010. The girl told officials that Riggen, who she referred to as “Smokey,” touched her in a sexual manner.

HeraldStandard.com does not identify the victims of alleged sexual assault. Clem said that Riggen at first denied touching the child but later admitted to investigators that he “may have accidentally touched the victim” when she was naked in the bathroom of his home.

Riggen remains free on $5,000 unsecured bond, as the charge is a misdemeanor.
