A Uniontown man is behind bars after police allege he robbed 10 El Salvadorian men inside a hotel room in New Stanton last week.

State police said Craig A. Howard, 41, of 68 Lincoln St. was charged with robbery, burglary, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, simple assault, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property.

Police said the robbery occurred when Howard entered a room at a hotel on Byers Avenue Sept. 19 and threatened the men inside with a knife.

The men were staying at the hotel while working at a construction site in the region.

Howard was able to gain access to the room by pretending to be working for the hotel, police said.

Howard stole about $3,000 from the men before threatening to shoot them if they reported the incident to police and then fleeing the scene.

Police said charges are pending against four other suspects who were accompanying Howard when the robbery occurred.

Howard was placed in Westmoreland County Prison on $75,000 straight cash bond following his arraignment.
