Local GOP leader not surprised at Santorum’s departure from campaign trail
The news of the departure of U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum from the campaign trail on Tuesday did come as a surprise to the local GOP chairman.
Russ Rhodes, Fayette County GOP Committee Chairman, said that while Santorum was popular with social issue conservatives, his overall support was waning.
“I think if (Santorum) was the nominee, he would have a tough time going up against President Obama in the general election,” said Rhodes.
