A Hiller man is behind bars after police allege he raped a woman in Uniontown early Sunday.

City police Officer Frederick Kampert said Joseph William Miller, 23, was charged with rape, aggravated indecent assault and sexual assault Sunday night.

Kampert said the charges were filed after Miller and his girlfriend stayed the night at the alleged victim’s home in Uniontown after a night of drinking at a local bar.

While at the residence, the alleged victim told police she was very intoxicated and passed out.

When she awoke later, she told investigators that Miller was on top of her in her bed, Kampert said. She told police that she told Miller to get off of her and that he left the room before she passed out again, Kampert said.

She awoke later and found that Miller was engaged in sexual intercourse with her, Kampert said. She said that she tried to stop him but couldn’t do so because she was too intoxicated, Kampert said.

HeraldStandard.com does not identify the victims of alleged sexual assault.

Miller was placed in Fayette County Prison on $35,000 straight cash bond following his arraignment.

A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
