A Dawson woman on house arrest for a drug violation is now behind bars after she removed her home-monitoring device and fled her residence earlier this month.

Fayette County Detective James D. Caccimelio said Holly Nicole Smith, 24, of 1048 Banning Road was charged before Magisterial District Judge Dwight K. Shaner with a single count of escape following the incident.

Caccimelio said Fayette County Judge Steve P. Leskinen sentenced Smith to a term of house arrest in February after she pleaded guilty to a charge for drug possession filed by state police in 2008.

In early April, Caccimelio said probation officers were notified that Smith might have tampered with her electronic monitoring device that was attached to her ankle following her sentencing.

When officers arrived at her residence, they found the bracelet had been removed and was left in her bedroom inside the home.

Additionally, officers said the found a replica bracelet inside the residence.

Caccimelio said that Smith returned to the residence while officers were there and she was taken into custody without incident.

Smith was placed in Fayette County Prison on $5,000 straight cash bond.

A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date before Shaner.
