State police have identified a woman who was shot while sitting outdoors in Connellsville Township Wednesday evening as 21-year-old Kelly Lynn Brooks of Dunbar.

Trooper Stefani Plume said Brooks was sitting on a rock in an area known as South Connellsville Beach on the Youghiogheny River around 6:45 p.m. when she was struck in the left thigh by a bullet.

Trooper Alec J. Hamilton said Brooks was initially taken to Highlands Hospital in Connellsville for treatment and later flown by medical helicopter to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.

Plume said that the bullet apparently traveled through Brooks’ leg and then struck her left forearm.

Police have not identified a suspect in the incident and it is not clear where the round was fired from.
