State police said a New Stanton man was killed Wednesday morning when the vehicle he was driving and a second vehicle collided on Interstate 70 in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County.

Trooper Jakob Coneybeer said Frank Charles Armstrong, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel following the crash at 9:35 a.m.

Police said the crash occurred when Armstrong attempted to enter the westbound lanes on I-70 at the junction with Route 51. Investigators said that a vehicle driven by Gary King, 38, of Belle Vernon was traveling westbound and left the road, striking Armstrong’s vehicle while it was still on the entrance ramp.

Police said King and a 2-year-old boy traveling in his vehicle suffered injuries and were each flown by medical helicopter to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

Linda Armstrong, 64, and Freda Rorke, 91, both of New Stanton and both passengers in Frank Armstrong’s vehicle, also suffered injuries. The women were each flown by medical helicopter to UPMC-Presbyterian. Police noted that Rorke is in critical condition.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
