Holiday fund continues to climb
Slowly but surely, the Give-A-Christmas total continues to climb. Herald-Standard readers contributed another $120 to the campaign increasing the fund to $6,438.
“We’re so happy to see people continue to support the fund that helps the Salvation Army,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is mascot for the campaign. “Remember that we want to raise $40,000 by Dec. 21. We have a long way to go but we’re very hopeful we will make it. And in our 27th year of the campaign, we are hoping to break the million-dollar mark in the funds we have raised for the Salvation Army.”
The latest donations came from Uniontown, Hopwood, Elco and McClellandtown.
Sparkle received a couple of notes with good wishes.
“Keep up the good work and may you surpass your goal,” wrote Steve and Linda Evon of Elco. “Keep our military people safe and healthy and bring them home safe.”
“I hope you will be able to reach your goal to be able to aid all the families in need. I wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year. God bless everyone,” wrote Kathleen B. Welch of Uniontown, who donated in memory of her mother, Evelyn F. Guard, father, Freeman F. Guard, husband, Foster L. Welch Jr., and in honor of her grandchildren Alyssa Ann Welch, Christopher Samuel Welch, Brittany Erin Siget and Katelyn Nicole Siget.
Other donors included James Krese of Uniontown, Stan and Sheryl Dennis, in honor of their grandchildren (“their little angels”) Brady and Aubrey Dennis, Hopwood; and Richard and Launa Tate, McClellandtown.
Donations will continue to be received until noon Dec. 21.
The final amount will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard.
Donations for the campaign can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown, PA 15401, or brought to the Herald-Standard office in Uniontown during business hours. Sparkle cans have also been placed in numerous store locations in the Herald-Standard.
