Man charged in theft of gun
A West Brownsville man who police allege stole a gun from a residence in Newell and then spent several hours in an armed standoff Monday with police is now behind bars.
Southwest Regional police Chief John D. Hartman said John A. Kerik, 30, of 49 W. Main St. was charged before Magisterial District Judge Jesse Cramer with a single count of theft of a firearm on Thursday.
After more than three hours of negotiating Monday, police said they were able to take Kerik into custody, in a field near the site of the new Walmart Supercenter on Route 40.
