Andrew Dursa
Andrew Dursa, age 92, of Uniontown, Pa., passed Friday, February 17, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.
He was b o r n o n November 15, 1919 in Allison Pa., the son of the late Andrew and Sophia (Mihalko) Dursa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Marie Maleganos (New York), Ann Lukac (New York) and Margaret Burgess (California) and one brother, George Dursa, Uniontown, Pa.
Andrew was a member of St. John Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church. He was a 1939 graduate of Uniontown High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1949 where he fought in the African Campaign and was taken Prisoner of War for two years four months. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
After the service to his country, he moved to New York City where he resided for 30 years. He was employed as a security guard at Macy’s Flagship Store in New York City and also employed at Grumman Aircraft in New York.
After his retirement he moved back to Uniontown.
Andrew belonged to the following organizations: POW National Chapter 648, VFW of Uniontown Post 47, AMVETS Post 103, American Legion Post 51, Catholic War Veterans Post 1669 and the Disabled American Veterans.
Andrew loved life!
He is survived by his loving wife Anna who was devoted to his care; stepdaughter: Robin Ewing and husband Tim of Hopwood, Pa.; step-grand-children: Heather (Ewing) Girolami and husband Vince of Franklin, Tennessee and Caitlyn Ewing of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great-grandsons: Jacob Girolami and Daniel Girolami both of Franklin, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., Monday, February 20, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday morning until 10 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in Saint John Byzantine Catholic Church will the Rev. Father Ronald P. Larko as celebrant.
Interment follows in St. John Byzantine Catholic Church Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa.
Parastas Service will be held Monday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
