GERMAN TWP. — Bridge reconstruction will begin soon on Ball Hill Road in German Township.

CH&D Enterprises Inc. of New Stanton will install a box culvert at the intersection of Ball Hill Road (state Route 166) and Palmer Road (state Route 3013).

The project will replace the bridge that carries Ball Hill Road over Middle Run with a single cell, precast reinforced concrete box culvert.

According to CH&D Enterprises, traffic on Ball Hill Road will be reduced to one lane at the construction site and temporary traffic signals will be placed on Ball Hill and Palmer roads. The work is scheduled to start around March 1. The project is expected to be complete on Oct. 17.

Township Supervisor Daniel Shimshock said the bridge was on a list of bridges that was scheduled to be updated as part of the state Department of Transportation’s 12-year plan.

According to PennDOT’s website, the 12-year transportation program will focus on improving all major modes of transportation.

The website states, “Transportation projects that focus on improving safety, enhancing mobility, moving goods and preserving the existing system are key to achieving the department’s goals and objectives.”
