Andrew P. Hrebenar Sr.
Andrew P. Hrebenar Sr., age 96, of Hopwood, Pa., passed away Saturday afternoon, February 25, 2012 in the South Fayette Nursing Center, Markleysburg, Pa.
He was born December 4, 1915 in York Run, Pa.
He is predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Helen E. (Sukar) Hrebenar, a sister, Mary C. Andrus and brothers, Joseph, John, Paul, Martin and Michael.
Andrew was a member of St. Mary Nativity R.C. Church.
He was a United States Veteran of the Army Air Force serving in Panama. As a radio repairman he maintained the equipment on board aircraft defending the Panama Canal.
He retired from the Maintenance Department of the former Fayette Title and Trust Building in Uniontown.
He was a member and former faithful Navigator and Past Grand Knight of Albert Gallatin General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
He has a long time interest in radio and television. He and his brother-in-law built crystal sets so they could listen to broadcasts from KDKA Radio in Pittsburgh. Andrew was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator. Andrew enjoyed maintaining contact with his many radio friends throughout the east and mid-west areas of the United States. He was a member of the Amateur Radio W3Pie Club.
He is survived by his sons: Andrew P. Hrebenar Jr. with whom he made his home and son Michael Hrebenar and wife Diane.
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., this morning until 9:30 a.m. when a Blessing Service will be held followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Nativity R. C. Church with Rev. Father Stephen R. Bugay as celebrant.
Interment follows in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers and friends at the South Fayette Nursing Center where he made his home for the past six years.
