A Uniontown man charged with attempted homicide after he allegedly shot another man in the shoulder in Uniontown will stand trial.

Uniontown police Detective Donald M. Gmitter said William “Wee Wee” Smith, 39, was charged with attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, illegal possession of a firearm, two counts of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person after he allegedly shot Malek Mohammad of Uniontown in the shoulder during an incident on Dec. 23.

Following testimony from Gmitter and the alleged victim today, Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros held most of the charges against Smith for court but dismissed the illegal possession of a firearm because police were unable to provide a certified criminal record for Smith during the hearing.

Gmitter said after the proceeding that he will refile the charge against Smith.
