Mother charged for allegedly dropping baby
Uniontown police said they have filed charges against a mother accused of failing to seek medical attention for her 2-month-old daughter after the baby’s father dropped her during a domestic dispute at their home.
Detective Donald M. Gmitter said Beth Ann Stout-Snyder, 38, of 83 S. Mount Vernon Ave. was charged by Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros with endangering the welfare of a child following a police investigation into the incident.
Gmitter said that charge was filed after police arrested Carlos Remington Jackson, 48, on charges including simple assault, recklessly endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.
According to Gmitter, the charges against the couple were filed after they got into an argument at their home Dec. 29.
Jackson was holding the couple’s infant daughter, Aleya Jackson, during the altercation, Gmitter said.
While fighting with Stout-Snyder, Gmitter said that Jackson grabbed Stout-Snyder and assaulted her, and in the process dropped their daughter on the floor.
He said that Stout-Snyder told police that the child had “not been acting right since.”
Gmitter said that police did not learn of the assault until Saturday night when an ambulance was called to the home because Aleya Jackson had stopped breathing.
Gimitter said that during the two days after the child was dropped, Stout-Snyder failed to seek medical treatment for her daughter despite multiple indicators that something was amiss. He said that failure to render care resulted in the single charge against her.
The baby was initially treated at Uniontown Hospital and later moved to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for continued observation in their intensive care unit.
Following his arraignment, Jackson was placed in Fayette County Prison on $25,000 straight cash bond.
Stout-Snyder will be notified by summons of the charge against her, Gmitter said.
