Laurel Highlands to get new pool
A swimming pool will be part of the renovation project at Laurel Highlands High School following a vote by the district’s school board directors Tuesday.
The original plans for the renovation project had not included a new pool, but after public outcry, directors reconsidered. On Tuesday, board members were asked to make a decision on whether the district would benefit more from an auxiliary gym or a new pool.
In an 8-1 vote, directors approved the addition of the pool to the plan. Directors Tom Vernon, Melvyn Sepic, Beverly Beal, Norma Santore, Jim Tobal, Ira Chrise, Lyn Andaloro and Jamie Miller D’Andrea voted in favor of the pool while Director Larry Zebley opposed the motion.
