Man to stand trial in sex assault
A Pittsburgh man will stand trial for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman in California in April.
California police Officer Timothy Sheehan said Michael Joseph Grove, 28, of 1714 Loretta Drive was charged before Magisterial District Judge Joshua Kanalis with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, indecent assault and simple assault.
Kanalis held all charges against Grove for Washington County Court following a preliminary hearing last week.
According to Sheehan, police were summoned to a location on Second Street for a report of a sexual assault at 10:38 p.m. April 14.
After conducting an investigation into the allegations and in conjunction with the Washington County district attorney’s office, Sheehan filed the charges against Grove on Tuesday.
HeraldStandard.com does not identify the victims of alleged sexual assault.
While Grove does not have a prior record in Washington County, Allegheny County court records reveal he was charged with two counts each of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors as well as single counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and having obscene contact with minors for an incident that occurred in Penn Hills in 2004.
The following year, an Allegheny County judge withdrew the aggravated indecent assault counts and Grove pleaded guilty to the remaining charges.
He was sentenced to 15 days to one month in prison and five years probation.
He remains free on unsecured bond.
