Jerome John ‘Sonny’ Gilbert
Jerome John ‘Sonny’ Gilbert, age 65 of Lemont Furnace, Pa., passed away Wednesday morning March 7, 2012.
He was born June 3, 1946 in Lemont Furnace, Pa. son of the late Robert John Gilbert and Anna Marie Salinger Gilbert.
Sonny was a of St. Mary’s R. C. Church, Uniontown.
He was active in the Special Olympics for years and worked at Goodwill Industries.
He was a loving person who enjoyed his family.
He loved to dance, sing and play the guitar. He loved to shop, go to the mall and to the movies. He loved to go out to eat at restaurants where he would always finish off his dinner with a big ice cream sundae and that always brought a smile to his face. He also loved crayons, coloring in coloring books, wrestling magazines, looking at catalogs and counting money.
Sonny’s family always thought of him as an angel on earth and they all know that they now have a special angel in heaven.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Marcie Gilbert Pierce and husband Clarence of Lemont Furnace with whom he made his home, Barbara Rigger of Uniontown, Robert Gilbert and his wife Linda of Willow Lake, Illinois, Michael Gilbert of Murray, Utah, Dennis Gilbert and Pam of Lemont Furnace; several loving nieces nephews, great nieces and great nephews; a special cousin, Renee Glasny Spitaler, whom Sonny loved and adored and other relatives and many friends.
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Ave., Uniontown today, March 11, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday until 9:30 when a blessing service will be held followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s R.C. Church Uniontown with the Rev. Fr. Stephen R. Bugay as celebrant.
Interment follows in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Uniontown.
Parish wake service is at 3:30 p.m. today.
