Belle Vernon man waives most charges in alleged assault of child
A Belle Vernon man who state police allege assaulted a 3-year-old girl he was baby-sitting in North Charleroi last month waived most charges against him to court Monday.
Trooper Christian D. Lieberum said Brandon Michael Polomoscanik, 32, of 305 Rankin Road was charged before Magisterial District Judge Larry Hopkins with aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.
During a preliminary hearing Monday, prosecutors withdrew the aggravated assault charge against Polomoscanik who, in turn, waived the remaining charges to Washington County Court.
Lieberum said the charges were filed after Polomoscanik assaulted the girl while baby-sitting her at a residence from 8:30 a.m. to 5:35 p.m. Feb. 13.
Lieberum said that when the girl’s mother returned to her residence, she found her daughter with a bump on her head and scratches on her face.
Upon further inspection, Lieberum said the child’s mother found more injuries on her daughter, including several cuts and bruises and then decided to call 911.
Lieberum said that the girl’s mother then drove her daughter to Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Township for treatment. After she was examined, doctors decided to transfer her to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for additional care.
According to Lieberum, Polomoscanik told police that he might have been too violent with the child when he became angry because she wouldn’t eat pizza, and also described how he grabbed her and beat her when she ran to the door of the residence because she thought her mother was home.
Lieberum also said that Polomoscanik dropped the child from about 4 feet in the air.
Lieberum noted that Polomoscanik expressed remorse for causing the injuries to the girl.
