Point Marion’s public art workshops continue
Point Marion’s public art committee announces there will be three workshops this week for community members to help make the mosaic that will be installed on the side of the Sadler Building at the Point Marion post office/Centra Bank parking lot this summer.
The workshops will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Jordan Auto Parts building on the corner of Penn and Main streets.
Officials said public participants just need to figure out a leaf design, cut glass to fit the design and glue the glass onto a board.
The committee also will begin working on the six large panels that feature the center tree, bridges and other figures representing Point Marion. Artist Debbie Palmer will draw the picture and participants will fill in the appropriate glass colors.
This project is for school-age children and adults. Parents must accompany children to their first session so that a liability waiver can be signed; the waiver will be in effect for all future workshops. Children 9 years old or younger will need to have a parent or adult stay with them during the workshops.
The workshops are open to borough residents and people throughout the surrounding area. There is no charge to be part of the project aimed at improving downtown Point Marion.

The committee also noted the community park was vandalize on New Year’s Eve. Portions of fence were destroyed.
A car was driven through the baseball diamond, tearing up the recently refurbished playing field. Insurance will cover only some of the damage.
A local couple have come forward to raise money to pay for repairs.
They will match up to $2,000 of money that is collected by the Point Marion community. Donations can be dropped off at Subway or the Riverside Diner or write a check to the Point Marion Park Commission and drop it off at the Hyde Veterinary office, 863 New Geneva Road.
