George Emmanuel Malik
George Emmanuel Malik, age 93, of Springfield, Missouri and formerly of Everson, Pa., passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 with his loving wife and daughter at his side. The son of the late Peter Malik III and Dora M. (Collins) Malik, he was born September 13,1918 in Valley Works, Pa. and named for both of his grandfathers.
He was raised in a devout Christian home in Everson and gave his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ at a very early age, something that was evident to all who knew him. He graduated Scottdale High School in 1937. He worked for Newton Grocers, Union Supply in Connellsville, and retired from West Penn Power in the early 1980’s after 40 years of service.
At age 16, he became Sunday school superintendent at Everson Evangelical United Brethren Church and taught and sang in the choir with his father. He also taught at mission points for the American Sunday School Union and did flannel graph Bible stories for his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed reading his Bible and praying every day with his wonderful wife, sharing his faith in God, playing the dulcimer, traveling, gardening, and spending time with his grandson whom he recently saw graduate from college.
One highlight of his life was their daughter taking he and Dorothy to Scotland for their silver anniversary.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Donald E. Malik, Sr. (Ruth) and Warren R. Malik (Cathern), his in-laws Ray and Lottie Montgomery, and a very special aunt, Lillian Watson.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Dorothy Mae Montgomery Ridinger Malik, R.N., whom he married April 10, 1959; his daughter, Dr. Rhonda Rid-inger of Springfield; grandson Christopher Clark; brother Melvin L. Malik, Sr. (Dolores) of Upper Tyrone Township; and sister Dora M. Curry of Scottdale; and many nephews and nieces.
Family and friends will be received at EVERSON EVANGELICAL CHURCH of North America, 414 Painter St. in Everson on Friday March 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. with the service at Noon, Rev. Peter A. Malik, his nephew Rev. Travis Deans and Rev. Robert B. Patton officiating.
