German Twp. sells used equipment

GERMAN TWP. — German Township supervisors on Tuesday voted to sell a variety of used township equipment totaling $21,853.

At last month’s meeting, the supervisors announced they would be advertising in the newspaper several pieces of equipment for sale, including a salt spreader box, hydraulic high-lift, paver and wheel loader.

The following are the approved sales:

n 2002 stainless steel hydraulic highway salt spreader to Quarrick Equipment of Uniontown for $1,850

n 1988 Caterpillar wheel loader to Quarrick Equipment for $16,786

n 1955 Galion hydraulic high-lift to Clark’s Salvage of Hedgesville, W.Va., for $2,150

n Mauldin asphalt paver to Swenglish Coal of Smithfield for $1,067

In other matters, the supervisors reminded residents that everyone must have garbage service and must pay their bill.

“Those who do not have it (garbage removal) will be cited,” said Supervisor Daniel Shimshock. “Notices were sent out several times, and so far there are still unpaid accounts. They will be cited through the magistrate at this point in time.”

Shimshock said those without a garbage collection account must establish one with Veolia Environmental Services in McClellandtown. The phone number is 724-437-7336.

The supervisors also wanted landlords to beware that property owners, not renters, are responsible for garbage collection bills. If a bill goes long enough without payment, it can result in a lien being placed on the property.

“You have to take pride in your own property,” said Supervisor Robert Belch.

Large cleanup will take place throughout the township during the week of May 14.

Residents are to place their hard-to-dispose items by the curb on their regular garbage day. Tires are to be placed separate from the other items.

This month’s regular recycling pickup will be held the week of March 26 on the regular garbage day.

The supervisors said the sewer project should be out to bid next month.

The project covering Ronco, Edenborn, Leckrone, Puritan, McClellandtown and part of Route 21 hit a snag when it was discovered that some of the current sewer lines were broken because of their age.

Other construction projects that are taking place within the township include the installation of five to six storm drains and 12 feet of underdrains along Old Route 21, installing storm drains in Palmer and Ronco, tree trimming and coal patching throughout the township and the construction of a bridge on the Brown’s Run Trail.

Once the new bridge is in place, the trail will be extended 1,000 feet and will end at Short Cut Road.

The trail project is funded through grants from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

Residents are also reminded that all Fayette County and township taxes have been mailed out. If someone has not received their property tax invoice, they can call tax collector Tina Skochelak at 724-892-2017.

Office hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and the first and third Saturday of the month.

The next township meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 10.
