Local man burned trying to extinguish car fire

An unidentified Fayette County man suffered serious burn injuries Saturday evening when he apparently tried to extinguish a car that had caught fire in Masontown.

According to officials from Fayette County 911, a vehicle parked on East Harvey Avenue caught fire around 7:15 p.m.

Officials said the man attempted to extinguish the blaze but was burned while doing so.

He was flown from the scene by medical helicopter to a local hospital for treatment. An update on his condition was not immediately available.

Masontown police and volunteer firefighters from Masontown responded to the blaze.
