William R. ‘Bill’ McCandless 82, of Connellsville, Pa., died Thursday, March 15, 2012.

He was born January 18, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of Rev. C. N. McCandless and Hazel (Reed) McCandless.

‘Bill’ was Methodist by faith.

He graduated from the now former Dunbar High School in 1948 and from Slippery Rock University in 1952.

Bill’s career began with teaching Physical Education, Math and Health at various school districts.

Following his t e a c h i n g career, ‘Bill’ became sole proprietor of The Hall of Fame Restaurant in Mount Pleasant.

In 1972, Bill established McCandless Insurance & Real Estate.

He also was founder of The Landlords Association.

He was a social member of the Slovak Club.

‘Bill’ led a very active life style which included running, swimming, traveling, doing handiwork and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; three sons: Randy McCandless and wife Winnie of Florida, Terry McCandless and wife Linda of Lancaster, Pa., and Larry McCandless of Florida; daughters: Bobbette Gallentine and husband Buck and Marsha Brady all of Connellsville, Pa.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Leroy McCandless of Florida; sister, Eleanor Hill of Connellsville; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, ‘Bill’ was predeceased by two brothers, Russell McCandless and Robert McCandless; and a sister, Ruth Johnson.

Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI F U N E R A L H O M E, 123 South First Street, West Side, Connellsville, (724.628.9033) on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, March 21, 2012 until 10 a.m., the hour of Service with the Rev. Ray Keefer officiating.

Interment will be private.

Bill’s family would like to thank his caretakers and hospice workers for the care and compassion they provided.
