A Wharton Township man, already in jail for shooting his wife in the back in 2007, will stand trial for allegedly raping a teen girl in Wharton Township on multiple occasions over a two-year period beginning in 2005.

State police Trooper William Brown said Jeffrey Scott George, who is currently incarcerated at State Correctional Institution at Waymart, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Wendy D. Dennis with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors in January.

Dennis held all charges against George for Fayette County Court following a preliminary hearing held Wednesday.

According to Brown, George raped the teen at a residence on Burke Road in Wharton Township on multiple occasions while the alleged victim was between the ages of 16 and 18.

He also forced her to perform multiple sex acts with him, Brown said.

In early 2008, George pleaded no contest to charges he shot his wife, Sue Ann George, at a location in Franklin Township.

Fayette County Judge Steve P. Leskinen accepted a plea agreement between Jeffrey George and the Fayette County district attorney’s office and sentenced him to 5 to 10 years in a state prison.

Jeffrey George testified that he had been on a binge of alcohol for several days leading up to the shooting and also was using drugs at the time.

During the altercation, police said Jeffrey George fired several rounds from a rifle at Sue Ann George, who was subsequently shot in the lower back and leg, said police.

Following the hearing before Dennis, Jeffrey George was remanded to Fayette County Prison to await trial.
