Dr. Bulent Atalay, scientist, artist and best-selling author, will speak at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Mainstage Theatre in Steele Hall at California University of Pennsylvania.

A regular speaker at the Smithsonian Institution, the National Geographic Society and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Atalay will appear in conjunction with the university’s ongoing exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion.” He will discuss da Vinci’s artworks, inventions and ideas with school groups and members of the community.

Atalay teaches university courses in physics and quantum mechanics, and he travels the world as a lecturer, photographer and artist. The author of “Math and the Mona Lisa” and “Leonardo’s Universe,” among many other works, he also blogs for National Geographic.

As a lecturer, Atalay regularly speaks not only to scientists, scholars and arts professionals, but also to students at high schools near his home in Virginia. He said he especially enjoys exploring the connections between science and the arts.

The free presentation is open to the public. The exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion” is open from noon to 8 p.m. daily in the university’s convocation center.

Visitor parking is available in Vulcan Garage, off Third Street near the campus entrance. Guests may ride the free campus shuttle to and from the convocation center.
