Resolution reached in suit against state police

By Heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

A suit brought by a woman who claimed that state police troopers pepper sprayed her and urinated on her has resolved.

The terms of the resolution, reached by plaintiff Derena Marie Madison and the state, were not immediately available.

Madison sued last August, claiming she was handcuffed and shackled to a bench at the Uniontown station when she was pepper sprayed on Feb. 3, 2011. After that, she claimed she was carried outside, doused with water and passed out. When she came to, Madison alleged she smelled urine on her body.

She was in custody after being arrested for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

The suit named Troopers Chad Weaver and Michael Zampagona, a trooper only identified as “Cooley” and two troopers only identified as John Doe and Richard Roe.

Earlier this year, Chief U.S. District Judge Gary L. Lancaster declined to dismiss the suit.
