Helen Katherine (Perkins) Hagan

Helen Katherine (Perkins) Hagan, age 89, formerly of Uniontown and more recently of Ephrata, Pennsylvania passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Ephrata Community Hospital after a brief illness.

Helen was born June 3, 1922, in Morgantown, West Virginia the daughter of Clark E. Perkins and Mamie McCombs Perkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles F. Hagan Jr.; by her sister, Irene Davis of Yazoo City, Mississippi; by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Sue Mulholland and Terence Mulholland of Uniontown; and by two sisters-in-law, Betty Curry and Henrietta Nicolay both of Uniontown.

Helen was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Uniontown, having served as President of the Asbury Fellowship Class and as a member of the Mary Beth Circle.

She graduated from California State College with a degree in E l e m e n t a r y E d u c a t i o n a n d s p e n t 27 enjoyable years teaching children in Uniontown Area schools, while also serving as principal at Boyle School for many of those years.

Helen retired in 1985 to then become involved in both community and service organizations. She served as President of the Uniontown Service League, Uniontown Progress Club, the Uniontown College Club, and the Alpha Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was Past Matron of the Uniontown Chapter No. 263 Order of the Eastern Star and Past Worthy High Priestess and Past Watchman of Shepherds of the Margaret E. Caven Shrine.

Surviving are a son, Charles F. Hagan III and wife Carol of Ephrata, Pa.; and a daughter, Shannon Hagan of Rochester, New York. There are seven grandchildren: T e r r y Mulholland, Mike Mulholland, D a n Mulholland, S t e v e Mulholland, Tim Mulholland, Beth Hagan Haltmeier and Greg Hagan. In addition, there are eight great grandchildren: Tyler Mulholland; Justin and Jake Mulholland; Katherine and Charlie Mulholland; and Garrett, Molly and Bobby Haltmeier.

Helen’s arrangements have been entrusted to ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa. The family will receive friends in the funeral home today, May 6, from Noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, May 7, 2012 in the Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed by a service celebrating Helen’s life at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ruth Ann Campagna officiating.

Interment will be private.
