Escapee back in prison after jumping from window
A Mount Pleasant man is back in Fayette County Prison after jumping from a first floor window of the East Main Street building.
David Thomas McFadden, 21, was quickly apprehended by prison personnel and Uniontown police Lt. Thomas Kolencik on Tuesday after he led officers on a sprint through the downtown.
McFadden was arraigned by on-duty Magisterial District Judge Dwight Shaner on charges of escape, flight from law enforcement and criminal mischief in connection to the 5:45 p.m. incident.
Kolencik said officers were alerted to the escape by an unidentified person who came to the police station and said that he had witnessed McFadden jumping from the window of the prison.
After contacting the prison and learning of McFadden’s escape, the police department joined with prison personnel to conduct a search of the area.
“He ran toward the police station and then to the parking garage,” said Kolencik.
While in the garage, McFadden removed his green and white prison uniform and threw it in a nearby trash can.
“He had nothing on but his underwear, socks and shoes when he ran from the garage,” said Kolencik.
McFadden was apprehended by prison personnel in an East Penn Avenue parking lot, adjacent to the Laurel Business Institute.
McFadden was jailed Monday after police executed two bench warrants for his arrest.
He was previously charged in drug and burglary matters.
On Tuesday, he made his way into a counselor’s room, removed an air-conditioning unit from the window and then jumped about 25 feet to the ground, said Kolencik.
“At this point we don’t know how he was able to make it into the counselor’s room,” he added.
A preliminary hearing in the matter will be scheduled at a later date.
