FRANKLIN TWP. — The driver of a pickup truck suffered a head injury when the vehicle crashed over an embankment and overturned into a creek off Route 51 in Franklin Township just before noon Thursday.

Smock Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Kelly said the driver, who was not identified, lost control of the pickup while traveling southbound and crossed the median and northbound lanes before striking a guardrail and plummeting 30 feet down an embankment. The truck landed upside down in a creek, Kelly said.

Officials said the driver was able to free himself from the truck and walk away from the crash without help. He was taken by Uniontown Firemen’s Ambulance to Uniontown Hospital for treatment.

An update on his condition was not available Thursday.

It was not clear how the crash occurred and the accident remains under investigation by state police.
