John Duane Rohrer
John Duane Rohrer, age 82, of Scenery Hill and formerly of Beallsville, Pennsylvania died Sunday, May 20, 2012 in the home of his daughter Lois with whom he has been living for the past eight months.
John Duane was born on Monday, December 16, 1929 in Clarksville, Pennsylvania the son of Merle E. Rohrer and Virginia (Bane) Rohrer.
Duane graduated from East Beth High School in 1947.
In 1995, he retired from the Tri-County Joint Municipal Authority in Fredericktown.
During his working years, he had been employed by the Gross Furniture Company in California, Pennsylvania and for many years he, along with his wife, Amy, owned and operated the N e m a c o l i n Amoco in Beallsville.
He was a member of the Centerville United Methodist Church.
Duane previously served as a Beallsville Boro Councilman, a board member of the Tri-County Joint Municipal Authority, was Police Chief of Beallsville Borough, and was a longtime member of the Richeyville Volunteer Fire Company where he served as Assistant Chief.
Mr. Rohrer e n j o y e d traveling with his family, attending sporting events to watch his grandchildren, and playing slots at the area casinos, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren!
On June 24, 1950, Duane married Amy L. Nyswaner. They had celebrated 57 years of marriage before her death on August 17, 2007.
Surviving are six children: Jim Rohrer (Pam), Beallsville, Pa., John Rohrer (Holly) of Centerville, Pa., R o d n e y Rohrer (Robin) of Avella (West Middletown), Pa., Mark Rohrer (Christy), Washington, Pa., Doug Rohrer (Kristy) of Carmichaels, Pa., Lois Pitzer (Glen) of Scenery Hill, Pa.; ten Grandchildren: Eric, Shawn, Brian, Matthew, Dylan and Karissa Rohrer, Lisa Osburn, J.D. McCarty, Robin Shultz and A b b y K o s s; eight Great Grandchildren; five Step Grandchildren: Lindsey Pitzer, Taylor Pitzer, Evan Johnson, Grant Johnson, Gregg Johnson; Sister-in-law, Lee Ann Rohrer of Florida; several Nephews; one Niece.
Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are a brother, Rodney Rohrer; a son-in-law, Tom McCarty; and daughter-in-law, Roberta Rohrer.
Duane was the last of his immediate family.
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in JOHN B. GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, Pa., where Services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend James Markley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Beallsville Cemetery.
