Missing kayakers located

1 min read

BOSWELL, Pa. (AP) — Emergency dispatchers say a trio of kayakers found by a search team in southwestern Pennsylvania were never really lost, but had simply stopped to nap along the stream where they had been riding.

Somerset County officials aren’t identifying the trio who were presumed to be missing about 10 p.m. Sunday after nobody had heard from them for roughly 12 hours. They had gone kayaking on the Quemahoning (kay-mah-HOH’-ning) Creek about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Fire, search and water rescue volunteers found the kayakers sleeping along the stream’s bank near Boswell about 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Dispatchers say the kayakers told crews they were never lost but simply stopped to rest because they were tired. The kayakers included two 17-year-olds and a 20-year-old.
