Deacon James Earl Overton

Deacon James Earl Overton (a.k.a. Deac Hump, Big Daddy, Pap Pap) departed this side of life on Friday, May 18, 2012 at his home, with his family by his side.

‘Hump’ w a s b o r n i n Leckrone, Pa., on October 17, 1941 to Robert Overton and Leona (Ward) Overton.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Florence E. Overton, four brothers and two sisters.

Deacon Overton was a faithful member of the Lamberton Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon. He was also a former member of Antioch Baptist Church, Edenborn, Pa.

He leaves to cherish his memories a son, William ‘Boomer’ (Keishia) Overton of Atlanta, Georgia; daughters: Shelia Overton of Ozark, Alabama, Odetta (James) McKoy, Artensy (James) Brown, and Joyce (Darryle) Thornton all of Edenborn, Pa., and Karen (Donnie) Bowie of Pittsburgh, Pa.; special cousin Anthony Frye, Edenborn, Pa.; one brother, George (Lewis) Overton of Masontown, Pa.; very special niece and nephew Iris Curtis and Lawrence O v e r t o n; brother-in-law, Arthur Woods of Uniontown, Pa.; sister-in-law, J o y c e Curetin, Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Friends and family will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, Pa., on Thursday, May 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, May 25, 2012 until 12 Noon, the hour of Service in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darren McKoy officiating

Interment will follow at G r e e n d a l e C e m e t e r y Masontown, Pa.
