Suspect sought in assault and robbery
State police have released a video surveillance photo of a man who assaulted a manager at a South Union Township convenience store and then robbed the business.
Trooper Anthony D. Vito said the incident occurred at 12:30 a.m. Monday at the Sheetz store on New Salem Road.
According to Vito, the suspect entered the business and struck a manager in the head with a handgun.
The woman, who police did not identify, suffered a head injury as a result and was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. for treatment. An update on her condition was not immediately available this morning.
After striking the woman with the gun, the suspect snatched an undisclosed amount of cash from the store and then fled on foot, Vito said.
The suspect is described as a white man, in his mid-20s, with a medium to heavy build.
Vito said he was dresses in black and was wearing a black beanie cap during the assault and robbery.
Vito noted that multiple customers were inside the store when the robbery occurred and police are asking any witnesses to come forward.
