Romney leading in southwestern PA counties
Republican challenger Mitt Romney is gaining ground in Fayette, Greene and Washington counties as early unofficial election results indicate he is in the lead with 42 percent of districts reporting in Washington, 77 percent reporting in Greene and 33 percent reporting in Fayette.
In the race for U.S. Senator, Democratic incumbent Bob Casey Jr. leads in Fayette with 53 percent of the vote while Republican challenger Tom Smith carries 45 percent with 33 percent of districts reporting.
Smith carries a slight lead in Greene County with 50 percent of the vote with 77 percent of the districts reporting. In Washington County, Smith and Casey are running neck and neck with 49 percent and 48 percent, respectively and 52 percent of the districts reporting.
