Uniontown man to stand trial in shooting
A Uniontown man accused of shooting another man in the ankle during a dispute outside a Uniontown bar in early September will stand trial.
City police Officer Matthew S. Painter said Stuart Ali, 37, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.
Ali waived all charges against him to Fayette County Court following a preliminary hearing Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr.
Painter said the incident occurred at 2:08 a.m. Sept. 2 when Ali, also known as “Piff,” got into an altercation with Christopher Teets of Uniontown outside a bar on North Gallatin Avenue.
Painter said that an unidentified man opened the hood of a minivan parked nearby and removed a handgun hidden inside and then handed the weapon to Ali. Ali then fired a single round at Teets, striking him in the right ankle, Painter said. Ali then fled the scene.
Painter said that Teets was taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment and later identified Ali from a photo lineup.
He noted that a .40-caliber shell casing was recovered at the scene.
Ali remains free after posting $25,000 straight cash bond.
