Couple escapes fire in Connellsville Township

A fire that reportedly started in a garage quickly spread to the adjoining house about 2:35 a.m. Tuesday on Rock Ridge Road in Connellsville Township. The garage was destroyed and the house sustained heavy damage. Volunteer firefighters from Connellsville Township, Bullskin Township, New Haven Hose Co., Everson, Scottdale and Morrell battled the fire for several hours. Ambulance personnel from Fayette EMS were also on the scene.

A couple escaped from their residence unharmed after a fire broke out in their garage and quickly spread to their home in Connellsville Township early Tuesday.

The fire broke out at 2:35 a.m. at the home on Rockridge Road. The blaze destroyed the garage and two vehicles before spreading to the adjacent residence, which sustained extensive damage.

The couple was not identified.

Eleven volunteer fire departments responded to the call and worked for several hours to contain the flames, according to Fayette County 911.

Responding were volunteer firefighters from Bullskin Township, Connellsville Township, New Haven Hose Co., Normalville, Everson, South Connellsville, Morrell, Flatwoods, Dawson and two volunteer departments from Westmoreland County. Fayette EMS also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state police fire marshal.
