Domestic violence awareness program set

Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) will host a free presentation on domestic violence 10 a.m. Wednesday at the WCCC Fayette County Education Center in Uniontown.

Jenn Soisson, community education specialist with Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania, will address how to recognize domestic violence, controlling behavior and dating violence. As part of the program, WCCC Fayette County Center students will decorate a tree with purple ribbons in acknowledgement of October as Domestic Violence Month. The students also will collect items for the women’s shelter, including nonperishable food, personal care items, clothing, school and cleaning supplies.

“We’re offering this program to inform our students about healthy resolution skills that will prevent them from becoming victims of family violence,” said Marian Chambers, coordinator of the WCCC Fayette County Education Center.The program also will provide information on support services, community service opportunities and refreshments.
