Charges are pending against two men in two separate chases Friday night in Fayette County, according to Redstone Township police.

Sgt. Norm Howard said Saturday that the first of the pursuits started around 9:45 p.m., when Officer Troy Rice tried to pull over a car for a traffic violation.

The driver, who Howard said is wanted on bench warrants from Fayette County Court, led Rice on a brief chase that ended when the driver tried to pass a car and hit a vehicle in the opposite lane.

The driver, a 22-year-old Merrittstown man, then fled into nearby woods, Howard said, and Brownsville police brought their police dog to help locate the man, but were not successful in doing so.

The crash injured the driver and passenger in the vehicle that was hit, and the passenger in the vehicle that was allegedly fleeing from police, Howard said. He said he believed that all three of those people were treated and released from Uniontown Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle remains on the lam, but Howard said police know who he is and intend to file charges against him Monday.

Likewise, Howard said, police will also file charges against a 36-year-old Isabella man who led police on a brief chase about an hour later.

Howard said he was sitting on New Salem Road watching traffic when the Isabella man’s vehicle “came flying by me and went off the shoulder of the road.”

Police pursued the vehicle for two miles into Luzerne Township, Howard said, before the driver lost control of his car at a T-intersection and hit a tree.

That man has broken bones in his face, but has been released from the hospital.
