A Belle Vernon man is behind bars after police say he admitted to raping a woman in Belle Vernon on Friday.

Southwest Regional police Chief John D. Hartman said Jonathan McDonough, 38, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Dwight K. Shaner with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of minors.

Hartman said the alleged victim – a 34-year-old Belle Vernon woman – told police that McDonough raped her at a residence in Belle Vernon.

He said that when police questioned McDonough he admitted to forcing the woman to have sex with him and continued to have sexual intercourse with her despite her repeated protests.

Hartman said that police also learned that the alleged rape occurred in the same room where a 6-month-old girl was in a bassinet and that a 5-year-old girl was in another room inside the house.

HeraldStandard.com does not identity the victims of alleged sexual assault.

McDonough was placed in Fayette County Prison on $25,000 straight cash bond following his arraignment.

He will face a preliminary hearing at a later date before Magisterial District Judge Jesse Cramer.
